Sax Music Scores was started in 2018 and is an online sheet music store which sells instant pdf downloads of new compositions and arrangements for the saxophone. The website specialises in offering quality new music to players of all levels and is run by saxophonists for saxophonists. It was initially set up by Marici Saxes’ baritone player and composer Josie Simmons as a platform to sell sheet music from the quartet’s albums, however now the website offers a range of scores for varying musical line ups which feature the saxophone. Currently Sax Music Scores is putting together a collection of educational pieces for schools and younger players.
Founder - Josie Simmons
Saxophonist and composer Josie Simmons has been writing music for several years and mainly focuses on composing new repertoire for the saxophone. Her compositions have been played on various BBC Radio stations which include Radio 3 plus performed in several countries which include the UK, Canada, China and France. She has been commissioned to compose pieces which include her saxophone concerto “Born Of Fire” and Josie currently writes regularly for her own successful saxophone quartet “Marici Saxes” with her musical works featuring on all their albums. Her original music is pluralistic combining more than one style and during her time as a composer, Josie has often been strongly influenced by Celtic music writing a number of works which incorporate this as well as minimalism, classical and jazz genres.
As a musician she has performed a variety of genres with many eclectic artists and ensembles which include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Yazz Ahmed, Darvra’s Wave, Planningtorock, London Jazz Orchestra, Sarum Orchestra and Joan As Police Woman at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Vortex Jazz Club, Queen Elizabeth Hall, St Martin In The Fields, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and BBC Television Centre. Josie has also pre-recorded or performed live on various radio stations which include Classic FM, BBC Radio 3, Radio X and BBC Radio 2.
